Syracuse football recruiting: 2017 defensive back Ifeatu Melifonwu commits to SU

Class of 2017 defensive back Ifeatu Melifonwu committed to Syracuse on Saturday night, according to Scout.com.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Grafton Memorial Senior (Massachusetts) High School product is ranked with two stars by Scout and Rivals.com. He isn’t ranked by 247Sports.com’s composite rankings. He also held offers from Connecticut, Boston College and Costal Carolina.

Per his Hudl.com profile, he played wide receiver and cornerback in high school, but he’s expected to be a defensive back at Syracuse. Melifonwu is the second player to choose Syracuse on Saturday, after Keirston Johnson committed to the Orange several hours earlier.

Melifonwu is the first defensive back and the first Massachusetts product in the Class of 2017. He’s the 12th commit overall. You can track the rest of the Class of 2017 here.
